Snow Leopard and Wader-Bird Enclosure

The new enclosures at Twycross Zoo required two different design philosophies. A snow leopard enclosure was treated with heavy duty stainless steel mesh with a cable support system independent of the mast stay cables. The wader birds are accommodated in a very tall aviary covered in nylon braid netting. The two zones encompass a new visitor centre and cafeteria.

Tony Hogg Design worked in collaboration with Lloyd Cullen Ltd's engineer to arrive at a robust but economical solution for the steelwork, cable and fittings and the two meshes. Patterns were provided to our client for each netting panel, so that these could be manufactured off site. The pre-cut panels assisted installation as much of this had to be achieved by means of roped access.
