The coloured PVC fabric canopy and walkway bridge is a striking feature that formed the centre-piece to the redevelopment of the Jubilee courtyard at the University Hospital of Wales (Cardiff). Tony Hogg Design executed the design, engineering and detailing for the membrane structure and working alongside Atkins provided the fabrication detailing for the bridge walkway.  Collaboration and coordination with our client was essential on this project due to severe delivery and installation constraints. All fabricated items had to be manhandled through the hospital corridors at night and passed through a window into the courtyard so that member sizes and weights had to be kept to a minimum.  The limited access to the courtyard meant traditional installation techniques had to be employed in the erection of the canopy and supporting structure.
