Client: Base Structures (2008)
Hypar Entrance Canopy
As part of the new Creative and Performing Arts Centre at Sidcot school, Tony Hogg Design worked with HBS Architecture to develop the entrance canopy. The solution had to provide some protection from the elements upon the approach to the building as well as providing a feature for the entrance area. In order to satisfy constraints of allowing maintenance access to the adjacent full height windows, not impinging on the access road along the side of the building and also maintaining the clear pedestrian route into the building, the final solution was the asymmetrical three point hypar form. The three points are supported on struts with tie backs. Rainwater drains from the canopy at the two lowest points where it falls and drains from the landscaping around the bases of the struts. The rear edge of the canopy is a fixed detail secured back to brackets from the building structure. Tony Hogg design took this project from concept through to completion of all fabrication detailing.
