Client: Hightex (2008)
Tony Hogg Design in association with Tensys Consultants, have designed and engineered the fabric and fittings for the multi-disciplinary project to provide a retractable cover over the centre court. Our scope of work embraced tender design and later the engineering and detailing of the fabric and fittings through to steelwork fabrication drawings. We were also involved in the mock-up evaluation, where two main concertina sections were erected for testing of all functions at a site in Sheffield. The completed structure erected at Wimbledon comprises nine sections to fully cover the court when deployed.
The highly translucent fabric augmented by sports lighting allows play to continue in adverse weather without compromising the spectator or the TV coverage. The fabric in the folding membranes is always kept under tension in both the parked and deployed positions.
