Client: Base Structures (2006)
Double catenary suspended barrel vault structure
The bus station canopy is a permanent structure that forms a covered waiting area and walkway which will eventually be extended to link to the adjacent shopping mall. Tony Hogg Design worked in collaboration with BDP's Glasgow office to develop the run of barrel vaults which follow a serpentine path. These are suspended and tensioned between tie rod catenaries held up by six elliptical steel arches. Analysis of the complex tie rod structure and membranes was by Tensys Consultants. Tony Hogg Design's involvement included the engineering and detailing of this structure as well as fabrication drawings for the specialist membrane fittings and schedules for the procurement of the tie rods.
